What an exhausting past few days. The move has officially happened and I am in the process of now trying to unload all these boxes. My garage looks like a warehouse. It's a good thing I can see the humor in all this or I would just surrender to my brief bouts of sheer fatigue. I have made many trips back and forth between the suburbs and the country. I can see where I'll need to keep the car filled regularly as each trip sees the gas needle move a little south each time. Last night my son and I took a little bike ride around our dirt road to explore. Since we haven't actually been inside the 7 acres we now have (being that it's wetlands), I wanted to see what was there from the side of the road. We discovered a large pond surrounded by tall pines and bush. Amongst the lilly pads and bulrushes, a large Blue Heron stood quietly. Once disturbed by our excitement, he flew off. It was beautiful. Just of note, I have already seen my first signs of fall - some red leaves already on the sumac trees. Hmmm....

Quietude
We have now officially started moving small items into the house. I sat on the deck overlooking the tall pine trees and wetlands (which are not wet currently) and could actually hear a fly buzzing by my ear it was so quiet. Time seemed to stand still for just that moment and it was great. I think I'm going to like the quietude. I must say it was odd to look out our long driveway and see a John Deere combine rolling by instead of a Suburban or a mini-van. Country living will be different.

House Keys
Well we officially are the new owners of our house as of today. We are so drained physically and mentally. This has been a rough couple of months. There are still some rather large hiccups in all this. A problem with potability in the well is the first biggie. I'm hoping this is just a testing contamination issue that can be easily rectified. If not, we'll be drinking bottled water for a while. Tomorrow the fun begins with one truck picking up some of this sea of cardboard and transplanting it to its home. It'll be nice to see the levels of brown boxes start to deplete. Maybe then I can get up in the night without stumbling over some unknown object which is determined to bruise my legs once more.

The Case of the Unknown Address
The latest conundrum in this delightful move is that nobody seems to know what the correct address is...hmm...hard to believe but true. Since it is in the countryside township, we don't know exactly what town this property belongs to or its appropriate zip code. The realtor doesn't know, the post office doesn't know, the lawyer doesn't know. I have someone working on this problem or challenge should I say to remain positive. But waiting for a response from some guy in downtown Toronto at Canada Post could take an indefinite amount of time. Something I am short on these days. From what I understand, a planner actually had to be summoned from the main downtown Post, go to the property, file an applicable zip code and then report it back to us. This is the part we still don't have any answers upon, so it shall be interesting to see the results.

Project Basement
It's been really busy lately as I've been concentrating on "Project Basement." The pile of things to go is growing rapidly as M-day quickly approaches. Being that it's such a hot and sunny day I really don't feel much like being couped up in my dark basement, but it is nice and cool down there. I just love this feeling of purging so many things. It's quite cathartic! I'm doing the work in bits and pieces. Last night my husband destroyed a large old fish tank that was transferred to this house almost 6 years ago. After a half an hour of trying to slice the silicone in order to disassemble the glass parts without success, he decided to take a sledge hammer and brute force to it. That finally did the trick. The tank was so large and awkward we thought there's no way 2 guys would be able to lift and move it out. Now it will be removed in pieces, but it will be gone! Good riddance! No excuses to keep these large, weird items.
We visited the new house this morning and were able to get inside, measure for dimensions and see the new travertine flooring downstairs. It looks fantastic. The deck has now been completed. Next week we were told the septic will go in and all the mountains of soil will be leveled off. And of course, my son had to climb one of those mountains this morning and then end up in the one and only mud puddle at its base. Luckily it was only his shoes that were covered in mud this time (as one pair of pants has already been ruined).

Sold
Last night it happened. We sold the house. I am still in emotional no-man's land. My husband is thrilled to have closed this chapter on the real estate deal. I on the other hand, am sad to know that all my memories from this part of my life are coming to an end. It's daunting to move to a new place, but I think what is worrying me most these days is wondering how lonely I will be. That sounds pretty shallow I realize, but it is a concern for me. You see, even though here in our suburb the houses are close together and I have many rooms that look onto the neighbor's brick walls, I can still see people and life nearby. My son and I took a drive to the new country house last night and I got to thinking about the serious lack of people. Having views of nature out the windows will be lovely, but I am not sure how to nix this nagging anxiety in my gut right now. I just have to keep having faith that everything will work out for the best.

We're Moving
So some big news in my world...we bought a new house this past weekend and I have 90 days now to sell my current home and get packed! My stomach has just been in knots. Talk about a great way to lose a quick 3 lbs. Not! As usual, we do everything fast and furiously. I'm still in relative shock about the whole thing, being that I agreed to talk it over (the idea of moving) and wasn't completely sold on buying another place. It had only been a week that I agreed with my husband on the notion of moving. And within 5 days, we'd bought a new home. When my hubby gets something in his mind, he does it right away. So a new chapter in my life is about to unfold. Should be an interesting one too. We are moving from suburbia to country life. I'm sure I'll have lots to write about in the coming days!
